Arrow All low end LQ4 cam suggestions?

I scrapped my 5.3 to 5.7 build and will be picking up an all iron 2000 6.0L LQ4 from a Sierra once the 5.3 sells. While I'm waiting for that to happen I'm just looking for simple things to install or change during the rebuild to make a bit more power across the usable rev range.

Is there a general cam you guys always recommend to increase low end, maybe mileage and not rev over 5500. RPM limiter would be set at 5500 anyway, and this 6.0L is going into a daily driver Sonoma with 14-15" of lift.

General specs...Dana 44's front and rear, 4.30 ring and pinion, 35x13R17 Terra Grapplers and 35x12.50R17 BFG KM2's, 4L60E...daily driver and weekend trail warrior. Wanting to rebuild the LQ4 with similar LQ9 flat top pistons, everything else on the motor stock, just so compression bumps up.

Thanks in advance,

InchUp

I think the 2000 6.0s are a bad deal. Iron heads and a longer crank. They won't bolt up to a 4l60

Could you expand on this? I've been told and shown with pics on forums that with a spacer, I could bolt up a 93 K1500 4L60E to a 2000 6.0L.

see that is where my knowledge stops. I've jsut read numerous threads saying the issues with them. Hopefully some one can chime in on this as I've never heard of people trying it with older transmissions. Since the 93 4l60e is designed to bolt up to a sbc how would you get it to bold up to the lsx bolt pattern?

So is everyone in agreement with this cam or is there something else I might look at.

I usually call a camshaft by it's part number, so this is the one I was thinking of but at this point I'm totally open for other suggestions. The CompCAMS XR259HR, specs are below in the summit link.

One thing I'm unsure of is if the rev range listed on summit's spec sheet (1000-5800) is for a 6.0L or some other engine. If the specs are for an LS1, the cam will feel much smaller in my 6.0L. Any ideas?

I was originally looking for a 224 cam for my 6.0, but one of the guys at texas speed told me that the extra cubes would eat up that cam and I wouldn't notice much of a difference. He told me to go to the 228. I'm not looking for all low end, but i'm sure the same applies. If that write up is for a smaller engine, it would make a difference. They seemed very knowledgable, and i felt comfortable with purchasing that cam after I talked with him for a few. Give them a call.

I also have the 2000 6.0L and was told it wouldn't work with my stock 5 speed tranny. So far so good with about 5000 miles on it.

That's what I like to hear. Definitely.

I think what I'll do for the time being, is play around with desktop dyno for a bit. Not so much to see exactly what each camshaft will do, but just to get a feel of the usable rev range the cam bumps up.

And again, always open for suggestions. I'm gathering parts all before the swap so I can do this right after the semester ends, so I have time.

Thanks

if you wanted to go bigger, might look at the comp 216/220
