6.2 help with picking a cam
#1
I recently acquired a L92 for a swap and I'm looking to make a little more power. I was originally shopping for a TSP but someone told me to avoid them at all cost for cams, so I've been looking at comp cams and I honestly have no clue what I'm looking at. I don't plan on making big power, just a little more power on the street probably no more than 30-50hp from a cam, I plan on using a OEM rpm billet TC on a 6l80e and 4.10 gears, I'm not looking for anything choppy or too noticeable if thats possible. I do plan on doing a AFM and VVT delete(from TSP unless anyone has some suggestions) since my new ECU won't support either. I'm hoping to get at most 450hp alongside a CAI and 3" true dual exhaust if it will fit.
I was looking at these 2 cams so far

Forget either of those. Buy this with .600" lift beehive springs and hardened pushrods: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-8720R1
It'll beat out either of those across the rpm range and have the same manners.

Not sure where you are getting your warnings on TSP but take it with a grain of salt. I've had a TSP 212/218 in my daily driven L9H for over 5 years without issue. I didn't click the links above to check specs but something sub-220 duration with a wider LSA (114-117 depending on duration to minimize overlap) would fit the request in original post.

talk to the guys at brian tooley's shop, too. i've had two of their cams & was happy with both - even though one took a few conversations' worth of comparisons/verifications before choosing it (nobody'd used those specs in a motor like mine before).

That 2nd cam isn't really that much bigger than the stock L9H cam if I'm remembering the 6.2L specs correctly. The 2nd one is a bit 'large' for what I would choose, but I'd only want to retain/improve the low end for tooling around town and towing and maintain some kind of fuel economy. Your goals may be different. From a cam perspective, I'd rather live with too small a cam than too big of one. I can't say I'd recommend Comp.
