Default 5.3l standard main bearings too tight!

I got my crack and block back from the machine shop and ive started re-assembly.
The crank only required polish, no grinding.

i bought new Clevite MS 2199A main bearings Standard.... but they are too tight.
Im going by the book on torgue+angle specs...
ive repeated it twice with the same results...
the plastigauge is too wide to even measure with the plastigauge paper (largest is .001)

Ive searched online for the answer to no avail.
caps are in correct orientation...
ive called the machine shop...
(they're OLLD SCHOOL, she said, "if you can skip a piece of paper in there, you're good")
didn't want to go with that...

anyone have some advice?

It seems like it HAS to be the bearings...
any info on ms2199a?

If it's a race motor, sand em with 400grit parallel to the bearing until they loosen up.

If its a DD motor, get the crank polished again.

More than 1 person has had issues with clevites. Which naturally means my 408 has clevites in it

...or find another set of bearings. I used the "King" bearings that came in my rebuild kit and was just at .0015

This above also run a micrometer on your crank shaft to make sure the machine shop did what you asked? IMO King bearings are better than Clevite

What's a polish? $150?

What's a bearing set cost? 150?

Its a wash unless you bust out the sandpaper. So take your pick imo.

It's going in my old Jeep CJ... not a race engine but did cam it for some low end trq...

Ok, so I'm not the only one having problems with clevite... good to know....I think ill go with King....

Id hate to buy standard king bearings and have the same problem though...

machine shop just polished.... said it looked great (at 180k miles) and just needed a polish so i assumed Standard size would have worked or been a BIT loose.... but not TIGHT

thank you guys for the help... I've been scratching my head, and googling the last 4 days...

Are you sure your putting the caps on correctly?
Are you putting the plastigauge in the center or slightly offset to one side?
