Default 5.3L L33 Engine Build

Hey guys,

I picked up a 5.3L L33 engine for my Porsche swap.

I have the engine cleaned, it has the flat tops already, I am putting in new cam bearings, rod, and main bearings, and new rings.

I would like to make it 10.5 or 11:1 compression and put a cam in it. I also picked up an LS2 intake because of the hood clearance in that application.

I was looking at using an LS6 cam, any thoughts? The car has a manual trans.

Also how much would I be able to take off the heads, using stock 5.3L head gaskets and still maintain good valve clearance?

Thanks for any help.

Andy

With you installing the 5.3L in a light porsche + manual trans, I would look for quite a bit bigger cam than an LS6 cam IMO. That will be a sweet setup once you get it done though. Most of the truck guys shoot for a 220ish cam when they first start out on the 5.3L with auto trans by the way. So, in that light car + manual trans you can take it a few steps further if you wanted to. It all depends what you want out of it and how high you want to spin the engine. I say get something like a mid 220's cam in there at least. A tr224 or a tsp224 would work really well for you, and if you didn't want to spin it too high set the shifts at 6600. Later on if you want, you can spin it a hair higher at 6700rpm or so.

This is just my opinion btw..

LS2 intake is the worst GM intake made(4 bolt Throttle body).I would sell it and find yourself a LS6 intake.Looks like the LS1 but has a flat bottom,no PCV hole, uses a 3 bolt throttle body and makes more power.

well for now I just am looking to get in the 375hp range, which should be doable. Later on down the road I am planning to strap a blower on and change cams so for now I have to stick with the LS2 intake.

Thanks for the Cam suggestion, I will call up TSP or Thunder Racing and get a cam package ordered with the double springs.

Thanks for the help guys.
