Looking into options for my old mans rig. 05 5.3 60e, looking to tow 5000lbs cross country. Whats the best options for him to get some tow power? My research is suggesting, 2600 verter with 40k cooler, low lift cam, nnbs intake/TB, rails, injectors, possibly low lift cam, headers and tune. Thinking he has 3.73s in the rear. Give me some suggestions.

Be very careful of the cam you choose, some make noise and I just don't like it. I'm using LS7 lifters K-motion push rods and double spring kit. Pretty good stuff but makes noise. An easy way to make more torque is to change out the rear gear and you can also go with the gear venders overdrive unit to keep fuel mileage. I've bored my 5.3 out to a 5.7 and raised the compression up to 10.3:1. It definitely makes more power but I still have the stock 308 gear and it needs to be changed out to make a big difference. There is so many better choices you can make that I didn't do but knew about. Stroke a 6.0 or 6.2 and get big gains! EASY TO DO, also raising the compression is another easy way to make power.
