actually i'm on my 3rd transmission, stock one went out after my bad pinion angle caused the tail section to break and i drove a few miles to my friends house, causing the clutches to burn out 2 weeks after i repaired the tail. the second one was rebuilt with blue clutches and widened band and didn't last more than 10 months. My current transmission is a JR built 4L65E...

Good deal. Hate to see you go through all that work and no transmission to support the new block.

Btw... I'm on my 4th trans. Went thru 3 GM trans, 3rd on crapped out 1 month before Ike. One week after Ike, new FLT 4L60E with 3400 Vig and Sonnax servos. Best decision.

LQ4 to my understanding had the weaker rods until later.

And spraying an LQ9 is fun i hit mine with a 200 progressive shot and made some nice power. Like mentionrd before LQ4 if F.I. is planned LQ9 if staying N/A.

Really? They won't bolt up to any 4L60E or just ones built after 01?

ok guys just a lil update, ended up getting an LQ4 out of an 05 but now i'm feeling a little bit of buyers remorse for not getting an LQ9. I just feel like i'm really gonna miss out on the 20 extra horsepower but i guess it's all going to fit in my plans of either spraying a whole lot of nitrous or going with forced induction of some sort

believe me you wont noticed the difference between LQ4/LQ9, my LQ4 runs with the best of them.... but if it bothers you that much, just mill the heads and youll have the same CR as the LQ9...

In 05 up the LQ4 got the LS2 style rod.
supposedly the Lq9's got them in late 03 early 04
No one seems to be 100% but I guess there was a mid year design change at some point in 03 production of the LQ9.

1500 is alot of money for one. the only thing that is really different between an LQ4 and an LQ9 is the piston. LQ9 has the same floating pin flat top piston from the LS2 motor and the LQ4's will have a dish piston. early ones will be pressed and 05 up will be Floating.
