Default 5.3 info? I need help

Ok i know i have a 5.3 in my truck but what the hell is it. I keep hearing Gen terms and LQ's and so on and so on . Its in a 2008 Silverado with the stupid D.O.D. by the way which I completly HATE! And what website is a good start for trying to find performance parts? I need to know what cams will work out of which vettes or any interchangeable parts that I could possibly get my hands on. South Mississippi sure could use a decent speed shop!

looks to me like your 5.3 is an ly5 or if it's flex fuel its an lc9.
for a cam you'll need a single bolt style cam, and different lifters, and a tune to do away with the dod.
try some of the sponsors to the right------------>

fist off call blackbearperformance.com and get a custom tune! that would be the absolute first performance mod i would do! then tell Justin your plans and let him evaluate what needs to be done in the tune!

i was going put i cam on my 5.3L LH6 DOD to do that you have to take the cyclinder heads off and change so many parts from an C6 like lifters springs and lifter lock etc that would cost 500 $ and single bolt cam from compcams and the easiest thing is to disable the DOD just get your HPtuner if you gonna modify you car , coz everything goes by email now ,

for all of that i kept my engine intact and installed procharger p1 and DOD still works ,

to find out if you have a flexfuel motor, the easiest way is to call the parts counter at the stealership & give them the last 8 of your VIN.

There are much better options of cams than vette cams. Im pretty sure you could get a new 3 hole cam sprocket and use 3 bolt cams.
