I bet he means an Edelbrock LS1 Pro-Flo intake. OEM LS1 intakes are pretty weak.

You need to figure on budgeting ATLEAST 2k for your short block.

This is basically my build, except i used a piston that would take a stock rod...So I saved ~300...

370 build
DSS Racing 4.030 Pistons - 420
Total Seal piston rings - 230
6.125 Rods - 300
Melling oil pump - 125
JP double roller timing - 100
LS7 lifters - 140
Head gaskets - 80
Balance - 150
Machine - 200
Clevite Main&Rod bearings - 150
Total - $1895

You may be able to do things a little cheaper, but I doubt it. And, why would you want to? If you're wanting to DD this thing, it needs to have some nice dependable parts

You can save $100 by going to O'reily and getting some of their rings...Plasma moly though...They'll be good for a bit, but once that coating flakes off, ring seal becomes an issue, then oil gets into your combustion chamber, which leads to detonation which leads too...So you just as well buy a nice ring pack to begin with...

Come to think of it, thats really the only thing I spent any kind of money on...Everything else is cheap junk

Then you need to figure out what you're going to do for a trans...Your 4l60 barely holds up to what you're doing to it now. So I assume you'll be looking for a 4l80. You prolly got the hook up there, but I figure atleast 1k for that

Then your heads and cam, prolly 600 minimum, 800 tops I'm guessing...So thats almost 4k right there...It disappears quick. Then there's dyno time to get the tune dialed in right, I got enough stuff laying around to get you a nitrous system on there, so no money for that.

Pretty much, I'd say building a stroker and DD'ing it for less than 4k is out of the picture, if you're building for the future...Now if you want to save 1k, skip trans, buy a 4" crank and have at it. We won't get very many 150shots through that thing until you're rippin the 4l60 out to rebuild. It damn sure won't handle a 408 let alone a 427, with some boost

Here's a 383 build I'd like to do

383 build
TSP 383 rotating assembly - $1695
Melling oil pump - $125
JP Double roller timing - $100
LS7 lifters - $140
Head gaskets - $80
Balance - $150
Block $450
Clevite Main&Rod bearings $150
Total - $2890

That doesn't include cost of shipping the rotating assembly. I would imagine 60-80 for that. People may be able to do it cheaper with better parts, I don't know. I sit a computer all day looking at ebay, texas speed, speed inc., and other sponsors sites, trying to find the best deals on all the parts and thinking about the cheapest way I can build something.

yea I was figuring about 2k for the shortblock and putting the other 2k in heads and cam. The block has already been machined and bored so all i'll need to do is have it balanced once I get rods/pistons.
I'm just gonna do a built 370. Gonna go ahead and build it for the boost that I want to run in the future. I have 4k to start but don't have to finish it over night. I'd like to get the expensive stuff done and then gather everything else up over a few months.

I'm figuring ~700-800 for pistons and rings
400-500 for some good rods with arp 2000 bolts
150 balance
275 Cam
300 springs
500-600 for heads
So that is already 2625 if not less.
It already has a double roller timing chain
Not sure if it has an oil pump so thats 125
main and rod bearings ~150

Anything else can be gotten slowly. If I can get the engine itself put together I'll have a good start. The trans should hold up to the 370 N/A and I can save up to get an FLT7 or 4l80 later on before running spray. Still not dead set on if i want a really strong 4l60 or a 4l80.

I'm gonna try to sit down tonight and get a definite parts list but I'll need help making sure i'm not forgetting anything.

I have 4 definite parts lists here at my desk

I sit down and think way to much...I would be a lot better off and probably be money ahead if I wasn't so impatient. Sounds like you have a good plan of attack. Let me know if I can help out
