Default 408 Clearences

I am in the process of my 408 build and was curious about the clearences of the rotating part. I was told that are was no clearence issues in the block but there is in the windage tray. Is this true or what issues are there?? Is there a aftermarket tray?? Thanks for any help!!

Windage tray has to be spaced out 2 arp washer thicknesses or ~1/4"

Do some searching here and on LS1Tech.com. GM High Tech Performance also did an excellent series of 4 articles that are on their website about strokers. Most of the better rotating assemblies have few or no clearance problems other than the windage tray. However on some pistons, the skirt area on the #8 piston can contact the reluctor wheel when it is near BDC. Some connecting rods have clearance issues with the block or the cylinder liners on aluminum blocks especially. All of this needs to be checked after you've cleaned, lubricated and pre-assembled your rotating assembly. You also need to check many other clearances (oil clearance, connecting rod side clearances, thrust bearing clearance, ring clearances, etc.).

Now, the Gen III/IV series is better by far than the Gen I/II small blocks that are stroked. But don't just assume that the windage tray will be your only issue.

yea the block is out of a 2006 3/4 truck. i am dealing with a machine shop that has built several of these and that was the only issues they have had. they have been using manley crank rods and pistons.

Make sure the tray clears your rod bolts by at least .070 to .100.

Make sure your pick up tube clears the bottom of the pan by 1/2 to 5/8
