Well my shortblock is almost done and i've got everything i need to wrap up my build except a cam. I've done tons of searching and still haven't been able to decide what to use. I'll be using a 3200 stall, 317 heads, weiand intake, and spray a 200 shot at most on it for the track. I don't want to sacrifice horsepower on the street just for a few more when its on the nitrous though. Any suggestions? TIA

heads will be stock for now, money is starting to dry up and unfortunately at this point they are the best i can afford. I like the 3200 for the street since this is a DD, i may change it when i see how it drives with the new motor though. Oh and i forgot to mention im not looking to make anything crazy on this motor. 425rwhp on motor would make me very happy for now.

id look at a different intake manifold if you dont have that one yet
when v8 did the swap he gained nothing if not lost soem wiht the weiand - its ALUMINUM as in a heat soak get a polymer intake (LS6) or a edelbrock vic jr( i know aluminum too, but seen really good gains with it - woodhauler, parish)

The reason for the aluminum intake is so i don't blow it apart if i get a nitrous backfire, since i'll be running a wet shot. I've already got the intake, but i guess i could end up going with a vic jr. still.

well your going ot choke the **** out of that motor with 317s, low CR will hurt you also, small diameter headers will hurt ya, restrictive intakes will hurt ya. 3200 is too small for a 408
its a large motor that needs to breath..but if you were only looking for low 400s you could of went 6.0 with a decent cam andcalled it aday

the 317s are temporary like i said, i eventually will probably go with some patriot LS6 heads and that will bump my CR to about 11.5:1. I'll be using pacesetter LTs, no cats, and a straight through magnaflow muffler for the exhaust side. And from what i've seen VIG's tend to flash quite a bit higher than advertised when behind a 408.

what dish are hte pistons
i know you said temp but just stating, for pacesetters i would look into a 1 7/8 header, a 1 3/4 are small for large cubes
im just going off what i knwo of with my 408 build
look in media section for idle clip of mine....im sure it will make you wet lol
