4.8 rebuild help
#1
My buddie has a 06 Chevy RST. We put a Whipple supercharger on it and old number 7 chipped. We want to rebuild from what I understand the 4.8/5.3 block can be bored out to ls1 piston size. We want to do Forged dished pistons, Forged ls1 crank forged rods, good cam and some heads. He wants to run 12-16 psi or so. I am a ls1 guy and know alittle about them but I want to make sure everything will go together.
What would be a good cam size?

I am in the middle of that build right now I have about $2200 in the short block alone. for that much money I could have bought a 6.2l with 20,000 miles. do what you want but you should save money and time with a 6.0 or ls1.

Dunno exactly what his goals are, but he can just get some good FI pistons, forged rods and just use a 5.3 crank and have a 347ci. since the LS1, 5.3 and 6.0 all use the same crank and its plenty strong.
That would be a nice lil setup. PM sent

LOL, Im building a 408, but All the LS motors can make great power if you do it right. I like seeing people pushing the 4.8 and 5.3 to there limits. Thats what Im doing with my 4.8 before its yank out and put in another truck. Im talking heads, cam, full bolt ons. 4.8 and 5.3s are showing just over 300hp with a cam swap. All the motors are great IMO depending on what your trying to do.
