.045 isn't enough.... I'm pretty sure a LS7 lifter calls between .060-100 preload. I shoot for .070-.080.

thread pitch measurement guesses are just that....a guess. I'm sure they are between .030-.060...who knows for sure. why not use a dial caliper to set your preload?

put the lifter onto the base circle of the cam
find zero lash
throw a dial caliper on the PR side of the lifter and measure the preload as you torque it down.

The lifters I let fall landed on the windage tray. It wasn't too bad fishing them out with magnets.

Woohoo, 3000 posts. I will go wait by my mailbox for the 3000 award to come.

My guess is you didnt have enough preload and/or inadequate valve springs, lofted a couple lifters at high rpm and it started cracking and chipping the lobes.

Ive been running Rotella T after hearing about all these issues about a year ago with comp cams. no problems so far luckily. Others are using this oil for much higher horsepower applications then I am so I figure why not. Hell to make things easier for me I just run it now in everything I own! I've been stopped too many times by parts clerks making sure that I know I'm buying diesel oil for my civic. lol

heavy rockers combined with thick wall pushrods with budget springs. I run thick wall long *** pushrods (7.95 I think), but with yella terras and pac springs. my valvetrain is heavy but stable.
