Wait a minute here.

Randy has a cam and apparently is using the DOD lifters still. Why has his motor not blown up?

Has anyone provided PROOF that the DOD lifters will fail with a more aggressive cam? Like Randy says, DOD can be disabled in the tune to disable v4 mode. Those AFM/DOD cams seem tailored to keeping v4 mode enabled, yet make no mention of having to replace the lifters...

Is this whole DOD lifter thing a bunch of bullshit that someone has spread?

No. Although I haven't personally torn up a DOD engine because of the lifters, I have heard stories of different scenarios messing up the valvetrain. On one occasion, simply tuning the DOD engine to shift higher was enough to kill the lifters. In another case, there was an otherwise G8 with a procharger that ended up eating the cam because of DOD lifter failure. With more complex designs come more complex problems and more expensive fixes.

My friend with an 09 GMC had to have his lifters replaced under warranty on a stock truck... no tune or anything...on the other end m3srt been beating on his truck with a 220 cam for a while with dod lifters... i personally don't trust them, which why I don't have them anymore..

When your spending that amount of change for a cam swap, i can see where your coming from, BUT I can get any grind cam, spring, pushrods for about $750 installed at Tellez Motor Sports!!!!

thats a cam and dod swap with ARP everything

30-40 for head gaskets
100 arp head bolts
55 arp cam plate, cam bolts, arp crank bolt
425 spec'd cam
200-275 valve springs
130-150 pushrods
200 for an LS2 wedge style tensioner/LS7 lifters/LS7 trays
100 LS3/7 valley cover

if you arent able to do your swap yourself then add in 75-100hr labor. its not cheap thats why IF im doing a cam swap and i have any doubt in the DOD lifters and its my money. id rather change them vs having to pull it all back apart to replace everything an possibly my motor. like i said its just my .02 and id rather not risk the lifter failing imo

Comp Cams has some AFM/VVT cams as well, IIRC they call that line the SPR line(Springs and Phaser mods Required).

AFM and VVT is far more than just computer technology.

Any mechanical part can fail.

New Era Performance is based in central NY and just tuned my turbo Z71. see my threads

Ive known and raced with Mike and the team for 10 years... they make serious reliable power and prove it time and time again. If he says swap the rockers, I'd listen to him.

I can ask him as to why and also what he recomends with trucks. He said a baby cam in my truck would make great power and i wouldnt lose any driveability. I def want more power but wanna keep DOD. IT WORKS! average over 20mpg on 6 hour road trips with 4 people, coolers, and doing 70-75mph.
