Default 1999 cammed 5.3 in a 07 NBS Silverado ?

hello guys im not familiar with this site, but i am active a lot on silveradoss.com my name there is 1bad99silvy.

but anyways i had a 99 chevy silverado 5.3 cammed, bolt ons, stalled ran 13.5s

the truck got totalled saturday night, got rear ended by a drunk driver and shoved the bed into the cab, and needless to say the frame is F'd.. so i found a 07 4.8 NBS for a good price and was wandering a few things.

will my 99 5.3 work in the nbs silverado? what all do i need to do to get it to work.

also since my motor is already kinda built i was gonna build it more before i put it in my new truck, but wud i be better off trying to find a NBS 5.3 and build it and swap it in the new truck or just go with my 99 5.3?

im gonna end up going F/I proly a radix, or tvs 1900, 2300. or go N/A whats ur guys opinions?

Thanks, Mike

welcome! sell it and fund a turbo setup on the 4.8. if you read around, a lot of guys have been going that way with a lot of hard work it pays off pretty substantially. just my opinion from the success stories i have read.

thanks man! but i am 18 years old. im not to familiar with these motors and i live in the middle of missouri so there isnt a lot of people around here that know a lot about these motors.. i did do the cam swap and everything with a buddy of mine on my truck and street tuned it.. i dont wanna do turbo cuz im not experienced enough with that stuff and i dont have that kind of doe to dish out to have it done right cuz this truck will be my DD.

i was leaning more towards my old 5.3 forced induction (radix mp112) or N/A or a NBS 5.3 forced induction (radix mp112) or N/A

yeah the 07 4.8 you found would be a nnbs, your totaled truck is a nbs..

I'm with fortplainman, if i was you i would sell everything you could from your totaled truck and let that fund your 4.8 build.. Alot of people run crazy boost on turbo'd 4.8's and make CRAZY power. Even if you cant build the 4.8 like you want it as soon as you want to save some coin and you would have a fast rig.

just my $.02

that or sell both and swap in a 6.0 to not deal with boost. would solve your unfamiliarity on FI setups as well as a 2 motor sold for 1 motor to build and swap.

this is backwards of what you are asking but ill tell you what i got into with my motor swap. i just did a nbs (07 classic 4.8) swap into my 99. the main thing is the fuel has a regulator in the fuel filter vs on the rail by vacuum on the old motor. (i think) your new motor wont have EGR so your best bet would be to swap exhaust manifolds and intake while you have both motors out. you will have to check but you may also run into the flywheel being different. i have a 99 truck 07 motor and 01 flywheel. but i don't really know about the 5.3 i went boosted 4.8

You'd have to get a converter for the reluctor wheel. The NNBS motors have 52 tooth wheels for the crank position sensor, the NBS had a 24 tooth. The heads that are on your 4.8 are better heads than you're running on that 5.3 if you never swapped heads. It's probably less work to grab a front mount kit from a sponsor and run that 4.8 than it would be to swap motors... plus... boosted 4.8 is going to put out WAY more power than the N/A 5.3.

Gen III motor into the place of a Gen IV won't work. You can only convert a 58X reluctor to a 24X, not the other way around.

You can make it work by swapping cranks and converting knock sensors and cam gear locations, but that is totally not worth it.
