So I pulled the rubber thing out to clean it and I cannot get it to go back the same way. Now the rubber thing just sits in there loose with gaps all around. I broke no tabs during removal.
anyone done this before?

You don't have to remove the chrome trim ring to remove the rubber liner. The liner tucks under edges of the trim ring.

It's like it's slightly to small all the sudden. Shove one side in and the other side pops out.
