Man I've hated those pads every time i've tried them. Hope they work out better for you.
Which exact shim are you talking about? There are the ones that go on the back of the pad that aren't that important and the ones that go on the ends of the pad (the abutment clips) and those are really important. But those actually clip onto the caliper bridge.

I had them on a 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee and they were great. But from what iv seen they're junk on the Silverado. Mine are not bedded in yet so haven't tested them yet. There was 1 shim that fit on the back of the inside pad. between the pad and pistons. front pads. there was only one in the package.
