Another example is in the somewhat rough idle that these engines have for a stock vehicle.

If GM bumped the idle just a hair, it would idle smooth as glass. However that would cost them in the fuel mileage dept. So they do not.

Here was a a lot of slop in mine. we just regeared and added a true trac. I did see a tsb about some trucks not having the right pinion preload. There was a lot of crap going on in mine that wasn't right. We were able to take the pinion nut off with hand tools. Not very tight at all. The carrier was just sitting in the housing literally just picked it up and it came right out.( never had that happen before) inner pinion bearing race wasn't even seated all the way in housing. All good now though.
