C7 lifter problems?

I'm not terribly surprised at the car coming out with low oil. I read of another '14 that was sent out with no oil in the differential and ended up locking up within 20 miles.

Actually my buddy was the one who said it was 4qts low, dunno how he came to that lol. I checked the dip stick and it barely had any oil on it. Car hasn't been ran since the noise started except for the video.

I think LS7 lifters are the same non DOD lifter they've been using for a while now... maybe people expect more out of the "LS7" lifter. After all I tend to see more people using stiffer dual springs than they used to with the 918 being so common 8-10 years ago.

I do agree people seem to be having more problems though, but I'm not sure its QC.

I am suspicious too. It gets more complicated the more I try and investigate it.

"LS7" lifters are part number 17122490 and they replace all the previous LS part numbers. However if you have an AFM engine with lifter noise/damage, service bulletin 10-06-01-007 calls for using part number 12576400. Why? Is it a cheaper alternative for warranty repairs or some how an improvement, designed to prevent future failures?

I'm also unsure if the recent issues stem from bad lifters or a poorly heat treated cam shaft blank. Smells like COMP QC to me lol.

All conspiracy theories aside, the failure rate is still relatively small. I don't want to incite any undue weariness of GM. The only reason we care about these things is because many of us intend to push these engines and vehicles beyond their designed parameters and will have to foot the bill for failures ourselves.

Only reason I think the LS7 lifters are the issue lately is I had one go bad with less than 6hrs on a brand new set, and the others are a little loud. Cant imagine GM would put noisy lifters in their new vehicles.

Lil update, they towed the car back to dealership, and when they turned it on it did not make any noise. They did an oil change and nosie came back. Changed it out again, checked for any material in the oil and it came out clean. Still with same problem. They brought in an engineer and he is saying the noise is normal for these engines, but they could not guarantee that it will not mess up. They are telling my buddy that when the car is outside it sounds normal but inside a garage the nosie is louder due to it being in a closed space. My buddy is unsure to keep the car or not. I told him to drive it around more and see how it goes.

Why wouldn't he keep it? GM engineers are usually quick to fix legit problems on new models. Plus if its a dry sump car it may be tricky to check the oil level properly.
