4.10s or longtubes
I know I’ve got another thread open about gears but wanted to start a new one for this.
I’m torn between headers and 4.10’s. Both have their pros and cons. Both cost about the same for parts. Just really struggling to figure out which one to do. Truck is just a daily driver that will be going to 20’s with 33’s later in 2019.

Gears will make a bigger impact depending on what your current Ratio is ...?

Performance wise gears (only when you're raising hell)
Cool factor wise headers and a nice sounding exhaust system.
If you're doing the work yourself... gears by far is physically the hardest and more room for error.

Gears. All these new GM trucks lack in the mechanical advantage department over everyone else. I would go deeper with a 6 speed rig and not worry about it.
I run a 295/60/20 on my 2017 2500HD and I went to 4.56... it's honestly the best I could have ever done to the truck. My tires run short and measure closer to a 33 overall. Truck tachs 2100 or so at 70 mph. Which for fun for all readers is less rpm at 70 mph than my stock tire height ( 245/75/16) 4.10 geared 2005 1500HD with a 4L80e runs at it by a fair bit for a comparison. Bigger tire and a way more overdrive gear! Plus with the 4.02:1 first gear in the trans I would need a 7.4:1 rear gear to match my reduction in first with a 4L80e lol.

IMO 4.30 is ideal for 33", 4.56 for 35"

Pretty sure nobody on the planet makes a 4.30 gear set a person can put in that 9.5" 12 bolt the 14 up trucks have for those recommending 4.30. The 14 up V8 trucks don't use 10 bolts. He can 4.10 or 4.56 but nothing in between.
