Default 15' 2500HD VVT1 cam project

Sooo I just ordered the TSP VVT1 cam kit and rocker arm trunion upgrade

Ill be attempting to tune it by myself (played around with tuning my last truck... 13' 370c.i turbo rcsb. That was tuned professionally ) I have HP tuners and have been reading and still have a lot to learn during the tuning process. Im good with wot afr and spark tables. Have been reading about idle tuning a cam recently. And have adjusted shift pressures and shift time and removed engine torque management and adjusted trans torque management in the new truck.

About the new truck...

2015 2500HD. L96 6.0L. VVT only engine.
6L90E trans. 4.10 gears.

Wont be going with a stall converter yet.

Already installed...

Doug Thorley catless Tri y headers.
Corsa sport catless exhaust system.

I got pulled on by a girl in an F150 and that was it...somthing needed to be done to pick up some more power.

I dont really have any questions yet but Im all ears on tuning tips.

You are like 1200-1500lbs more than a F-150 though lol.

But should be a good learning project.

Did you have to fab your own y-pipe for the Doug Thorleys?

ABSOLUTELY.

Cam kit should be here today. I missed the ups guy while I was out picking up fluids and some necessary tools etc for the cam job.

Ive got the rad out and enough stuff off the front of the engine to get the timing cover off...except the crank bolt and pulley...thats this mornings battle!

The thorleys came with a y pipe. But the connection doesnt mate up with a stock catback connection. Had to drive the truck with open y pipe and the corsa catback not connected to an exhaust shop for them to make up the final tie in.

Catless headers and corsa sport is LOUD AS F. Its not your typical deep throaty american muscle sound but more like a corvette C5R racing car sound lol.

So I got the cam in.

Some notes on stuff... crank pulley puller and a crank pulley install tool. They are sooo worth using! Made life a lot easier.

The LS spring tool is another great thing.

The cam phaser limiter is an easy install and you dont absolutely need a bench vice to lock the cam gear into. Grip that sucker between your thighs in a good pair of jeans. The spring in the phaser isnt that stiff.

Lining up the phaser with the cam pin is a pain in the ***.

The cam...

It sounds great. It isnt as rowdy in my 9.6:1 compression engine as it would be on a 10.8:1 or higher engine. Or at least thats what im thinking.

My stock tune seems to be accepting the cam good enough for now but obviously tuning is in the works. I have hp tuners and would say im a little past beginner/ and into novice level.

I haven't the slightest clue about vvt cam timing adjustments but ill get to that once i get the fuel trims a little closer. Theyre super rich like -28 LTFT. Im waiting for hpt to send me 2.25 beta version so for now im gonna try and tune for maf only till i get the update with easier vve tuning.

No wide open yet till I get some of the tuning stuff sorted out.

Heres some videos!

They won't be sending you the beta as they just released HPT 3.0 today. That's what I read and see on the forum.
