No one has mentioned adding an aftermarket trans cooler??? I don't tow and my trans temps get high already! I say TruCool 40K remove bypass and add inline with crappy factory piece.

My buddy's stock avalanche has got plenty of towing miles on it chasing pipeline work pulling his 28' travel trailer in 3rd(4l60e) with no problems and the 6speed has bigger clutches than the 60e.

Do you have any more details on the failures? I'm really wanting to do this swap but I don't want to have to worry about towing.
You won't have to worry about it these trans are pretty tough if you know what you are doing when you are towing and are aware of warning signs a tranny is giving when it's in distress. Most of the ones we've had problems with are just straight fried from being overheated. Most people don't use tow haul or know to lock out 6th gear. So they shift up and down constantly and get hotter and hotter and people push them harder and harder till they give up the ghost. They come in cooked so bad it won't move and the trans fluid is just pure black and barbequed. Every one I've seen fail is people who pull heavy *** huge travel trailers or on welding trucks with a 6L90 that have huge beds and loaded with equipment. On these we always add a huge plate type oil cooler and just add it in to the price so we don't have to eat another failure if it was on one still under warranty.

I say 4.10s, having the same 6.2/6L80E/3.73/33s setup as Phil does. He is 100% correct imho.
If you are towing in too high of a gear, is it visible in the trans temps before you cause any real damage to the internals? My NHT truck hasn't even noticed anything I've put behind it yet (~2500 pounds) so I just want to know what to look for once I hook up something closer to my tow rating and go 3000 miles with it.

If its constantly shifting gears you're in too high of a gear.

Got it. Yeah I don't have that problem with my truck, when the trucks at work do it I manually drop it from sixth to fifth.

I have factory 4:10's and roll on 35's most of the time and love the combo! Now I do have a converter and can not attest to low rpm questions in 1st-3rd gear but when converter locks mine doesnt downshift on any hill/bridges! When pulling camper it does a good job any tranny temps stay below 190 as long as I'm not tring to out run a diesel pulling a trailor
All this is done in drive cause I still have not got my tow haul button working
Hope this is helpful as I hAve cam also?!? I have a towing vid in multimedia towing my camper that about 7,400lbs

I've got the 20" oem rims, 3.42's. We just bought a 24' 5th wheel camper.... Just pulled it through Arkansas, no problems at all. Save all your money for the gas.

Honestly I wouldn't touch your gears when you have a 6 speed. Just tow in 5th on flat land, and keep it in 4th when approaching a hilly area. For my 5.3 the optimal towing rpm is 2400-2600. Being that you have a 6.2 your ideal rpm may be a little lower. If your un happy with the 3.42s and 33s when you put them on, then switch to 4.10s.

I agree. 4.10s over 3.73s with 33s as well; I have the 6.2/3.73/33 combo and it could use more low-end.
