ive also heard of high rpm failures in lighter vehicles but my g8 shifted at 6800 and i did manage to limp that trans twice. i think it limped from WOT converter lock up. otherwise no problems. put 20k miles on that setup and i wasnt nice to it. for big big power id almost say go to something thats been proven like the 4l80. it might still be a while before people figgure out how to tune the 6 speeds.

There has not yet been a successful 4L80E swap into a GMT900, last I checked, as it was not an available transmission in any variant of the platform. Just fyi.

Did not know that. What was in the gas 2500s during late 07 and 08?

Ive personally seen a built 6l80,85,90 whatever fail quicker then a stock Trans. I think they work better bone stock vs any of the builders out there. This being said it was on a V that made 840 to the wheels. Like I said before, the built one is laying in the floor and was replaced with a stock GM unit and it's lasted. The "built" trans didn't last 3 passes either time it was fixed.

Vans had 80E's through 09 I believe.... Any GMT900 2500/3500 HD gas pig has a 6L90E...

There are plenty of them out there, just have to do the relay mod for the ones that started as a 60e. Nelson has done a few of them.

Really? This has come up several times here and I've researched it quite a bit elsewhere; is this recent?

No, its been done for a long time. There have been a few who have gone 6L80e to 4L80e and vice versa. Along with people running a4l80e on the 60e tune with the relay mod done.
