Default Transmission fluid

When filling a transmission up with fluid and you have a aftermarket dip stick is it safe to say most transmission have fluid filled up to were the tube starts that holds the transmission stick in place so if took that tube off fluid would run out of it or be just below it?

No, that's not safe to say.

What transmission do you have?

The 6L50E in my current truck has a bolt in the pan that is removed and when fluid comes out of there, it is full. If I did as you mentioned, I'd be over filled by 2+ quarts.

A picture is worth 54 words ☺️...I didn't really follow you there. I also thought you were talking about a dipstick-less transmission like the 6L80e as previous poster. 🤦

You need to calibrate your aftermarket dipstick. Drain and remove the transmission pan. Insert your dipstick and scribe a line aligned with the top of pan rail. That's your full line. There's a lot of YT videos on how to do this. I guess you can make another lower scribe line and cross-hatch the middle area, just like the factory dipstick to help you see the fill line.

Or do you have one of those short dipsticks where you have to crawl underneath to pull it? It should be the same procedure to calibrate it regardless.
