Sneaky Silverado

Just wanted to share my truck.

Details:
2010 RCSB W/T
5.3l 6L80E
3.42 gears G80
Bare bones- manual windows/ locks, vinyl floor etc.

Currently at Vortech having a Lysohlm 2300 twin screw installed.
When it returns I have the factory exhaust from the flange in front of the muffler back off an 08 Duramax that I polished waiting to go on.

I ran it stock with a K&N intake and a Hypertech Max Energy programmer which netted me a 14.65 et at 95.99 mph.

K&N intake alone on the truck gave an increase of 19 rwhp and 14 lbft.

Thanks for looking and comments welcome!

Sounds like a cool truck...and a rare combo...How hard was it to find with the rcsb 5.3 a6? I wonder if that combo available in LT trim:hump:

black04 04-02-2011 04:10 PM

I am pretty sure all of the trucks have a 6L80e now? Going to be a fun truck!

Allgonoshow 04-02-2011 04:31 PM

Next thing you should start looking for is traction, and a friend at a tire shop.
That's going to be a fun truck

dick_landy 04-02-2011 04:43 PM

I special ordered the truck new with that combo. They had plenty of 4.3/4.8 4L60's on the lot but thats not what I wanted. It had to be a basic W/T with the 5.3/6sd so I ordered one and waited 2 months for it. I also had full intention of supercharging it the day I ordered it. :burnout:

Well, whether you're the original Dick Landy or not - that thing's going to be an excellent sleeper!

The real Dick Landy passed away quite a while ago now. dick_landy is just a screen name I've been using for years.

On a progress note, the blower is on and has been dynoed. I was advised of an increase of 91rwhp/52lbft @ 8-9psi with 10.8 AFR and timing set to 13*@ WOT. They are having a transmission issue that they say is only apparent under a certain condition. Basically whats happening is its getting stuck in 2 forward gears just above the downshift point which prevents the engine from revving. They say 99% of customers would never come across this issue but want to ensure that customers never have to experience it. They have come up with a temporary fix but are waiting for their tuning vendor to supply an update. Apparently GM changed the shift logic for the 2010 models and their current program does not jive properly.

rjwz28 04-04-2011 10:04 PM

Sweet setup, can't wait to see how you run once they fix it! On a different note, all 5.3 and 6.2 trucks are A6 6L80Es; the 4.3s and 4.8s remain coupled to the 4L60E.

Not true. Mine is a 6L80E and I checked the box, otherwise it was coming with a 4 speed.

Not so . . .

The 6L80E transmission is a "forced option" on the 5.3 and 6.2 1500 trucks. You gotta "check the box" anyway, but GM no longer offers the 4L60E on any trucks except for those equipped with the 4.3 V6 or the 4.8 V8.

EDIT: Nice sleeper WT, BTW!

 AT the time I bought it the dealer asked what trans I wanted with the 5.3, I said 6sp. The only thing they told me is that if I ordered the 6sp with 3.42 gears I`d have the pay extra for the heavy duty cooling but not if I went with the 3.08s. Maybe a Canadian thing? There were some on the lot with a 5.3/4spd.

Anyway enough of that. I am getting anxious to get it back and proceed with the other mods, it was supposed to be ready for March 14th and now its April!

Nah, that would be a typo, I meant 6L80E; I'm well aware that HDs and CTS-Vs (and the upcoming ZL1) are the only vehicles available with the 6L90E. My point was that all 5.3 and 6.2 trucks are now 6-speeds and 4-speeds are only available on 4.3 and 4.8 trucks; I believe that began for 2011, but they may have done that in 2010.

Exactly what I was trying to say, except I fat-fingered the keyboard when I was typing the trans and I didn't notice

Hate to tell you, but the ZL1 Camaro is gonna be a stick-only car.

Not that I was gonna buy one, but IF I did I'd want an automatic . . .

skipperdaddy 04-07-2011 09:31 AM

That thing should FLY! we had a lil trouble with my trans at 1st too being i was his 1st 6spd to tune... but a cam and a tvs 1900 got me 522 rwhp... and you're a RC?? Hell yea man.. keep us posted!

Doesn't bother me in the least; if the ZL1 didn't have the shitty ergonomics inherent in the 5th-gen design, I would only want it with a manual. I just assumed both transmissions would carry over from the CTS-V.

What he said /\

This year was supposed to be the year I finally get myself a Z06, until I broke my Jeep's frame and my wife made me buy a truck. So I got one with 403hp  Not as awesome as a 3200lb 505hp car, but oh well, that'll have to wait another couple of years :drive:

Got the truck back. Works pretty good, I've been having alot of fun with it!

Robert91RS 05-17-2011 05:12 PM

Looks nice. Got any dyno numbers or time slips yet?

dick_landy 05-17-2011 05:45 PM

Im going to the track on saturday.

rjwz28 05-17-2011 06:08 PM

Awesome! Can't wait to see the results.

dick_landy 05-18-2011 07:57 PM

These were in a little box behind my seat.

Sweet little truck bud!!

Def a sleeper!

You gettin cal tracs??

dick_landy 05-18-2011 08:24 PM

I would love to but Im under the impression I would have to do a flip kit. That's something I dont want to do. If they have come out with something for stock applications then I'll pick some up.

They have them both ways bud. Im just thinking your gonna need some type of help back there with all that grunt!

dick_landy 05-22-2011 05:18 PM

Best I could do was a couple of 13.66 @ 102.xx mph with 2.1x 60ft's . Could not get a good hook no matter what I tried but. Had to leave the line with traction control on in D rolling into it half throttle till about half way through first then put it down. Good for 7" rock hard all seasons I think lol

Boober 05-22-2011 06:48 PM

Nice sleeper! I had a 01' Sonoma SL 4.3L/5-speed with a turbo. Had crank windows and vinyl floors. I loved that thing!

Looking at the engine bay pic, I gotta say that it looks EXACTLY like the Whipple supercharger kit (with the 2.3L W140AX) that I just installed on my 10' Sierra! Are they the same supercharger? I thought Whipple made their own units. Sure doesn't look like it to me, now I feel kinda stupid. I guess I never bothered to check.

dick_landy 05-22-2011 07:27 PM

Not sure but I think whipple has a bigger intercooler.

Boober 05-22-2011 08:49 PM

I'm actually just looking at the similarities with the twin screw units. I thought that Whipple no longer uses Lysholm superchargers and has developed their own systems after they had trouble getting superchargers from Lysholm. Is Lysholm now buying Whipple chargers and slapping it's sticker on the side? I'm confused!

For comparison, here is my Whipple system.

Attachment 143457

Well, now that I can compare more closely, I think it's just the front housing that looks so similar. The body's of the superchargers are slightly different.

iamkeniff 05-23-2011 06:20 AM

put some DRs on it an try it out ;) id add caltracs if you're still spinning on the launch..

dick_landy 05-23-2011 02:19 PM

How do you like the whipple and what boost are you running?

Boober 05-23-2011 10:20 PM

I just put it in last week so I'm still getting accustomed to it. I really love the extra torque off idle! I feel like I could get some nice 60ft times at the track. My truck is a pig so I wasn't expecting to suddenly have a muscle car but I've been pleasantly surprised! I haven't got a clue what boost I'm running now, Whipple says 8-10 psi on a stock truck. I hear that the VE on the 6.2's is a little better than the 5.3 so I'm probably closer to 8 psi. I will be going to the track in a few weeks so I'm looking forward to getting some solid results. Good luck with your beastly sleeper!

dick_landy 07-23-2011 07:08 PM

Im running the 3.65" pulley now and have been wanting to get some drag radials but haven't been able to decide what I want. I did pick up some 26x10.5 et streets with alot of life left on them so I'll burn those off for now. Not what I want and kinda short but they were free and now from a 45mph roll I wont break loose and spin till I peg third.

dick_landy 09-03-2011 02:02 PM

Ran it at the track with some 28x12.5 et streets. Im still on Vortec's tune.
Im 003

I bet that truck would really benefit from a new tune. Almost positive they left Alot on the table!

Sweet truck nonetheless

TIM Z 09-03-2011 02:32 PM

Brake stall or flat foot outta the hole?

Try both.

That truck def, has the sleeper apperance, rocking the stock steel wheels!!!!

You have a good MPH.

Get her custom tuned!

dick_landy 09-03-2011 02:45 PM

Thanks guys. I tried loading the converter but it didnt help. Mph was a tad better by flashing it. The truck is rock solid consistent.
