Default nnbs trans coolers

I called a shop this week about installing a converter for me, I told him I was going to throw my big cooler on it first then bring it in. the guy tells me " you don't need a bigger cooler, the new trucks have a different cooler setup than the old ones and its much more efficient " said something about it not running through the radiator now and having a stand alone trans cooler. anyone have any input?

It still runs thru the radiator and it's small.

I've got an 08 Sierra CC, installed a 40k cooler in place of the factory baby sized cooler. On my truck the factory lines ran from the tranny to the radiator to the cooler then back to the tranny.

gotcha, I was going to look today but decided to stay on the couch all day instead... I have a big cooler, can't remember the rating that was on my camaro... braided line setup, its a "race" cooler... planned to just use it and run all braided lines to eliminate the stock cooler.

I had a 28K and the stock cooler run in series. Keep that thing cool so you don't have to worry about it.

What is the max temp that the trans can tolerate anyhow? Specifically the 6L80E? I just installed a Yank Pro Truck 3200 in my 08 AWD Sierra Denali yesterday. It's a pretty awesome convertor - stalls to about 2900 on the foot brake and launches pretty hard. Noticeably looser than the stock one and noticeably quicker too. I have been driving the truck around all day and I noticed that the trans temp does climb quicker than it did with the stock converter, but it doesn't go any higher than 170 which is where it would go with the stock one (it would actually go up to about 185 or so on long tows), and I was really standing up on it a lot (hell yeah, it's fun!!), in 90 degree weather. I don't think 170 - 180 is fatal, but I would defer to those who have experience with these trannys... Do you think I need an auxillary cooler? Also, I thought the Denali came with HD coolers for both engine and transmission oil?
BTW: Yank didn't recommend a cooler and even said that I would retain my stock towing capability with the PT3200, but I'm not so sure about that one...
