Default NNBS Factory Exhaust

I was poking around underneath the truck the other night and noticed that there is a flex joint in the exhaust after the Y. I could care less about it other than it necks the 3" section down to 2.75". Whats the point of this flex joint? Do the aftermarket kits keep it?

I am sure it is there to help isolate vibration. I put a Borla catback on mine, and No it did not keep the flex joint...
