Really and honestly it depends on what you want option wise what you want to pay and if you are planning on no powertrain mods light mods or full tilt. I would try to accept nothing less than a 5.3 with a 6 speed and the lowest gears you can order for it.

5.3, 6-speed, 3.42 is the best you can get in a reg cab 1500. As far as trim level, that is up to you; if you don't care what options you have beyond mechanicals, get the minimum trim level for the drivetrain I described and leave it at that. I like my LT, personally.

You can order or find a WT reg cab with power windows, carpet, chrome grill, etc. The SLE model is the way to go if you want the upgraded dash, leather steering wheel, better upholstery, etc. You biggest engine you can get in a regular cab is a 5.3, 6 speed and a 3.73 rear gear. You cannot get leather in a regular cab. To get an SLE, you will have to probably order it, all we have here in AZ is WT's on the lots. You may find a Chevy reg cab LT on a lot somewhere. I did a search on GMC.com and not a single SLE regular cab came up in all of AZ or Southern California.

Wow, I didn't know they offered the 3.73s with the 5.3/6L80E. I got them in my 6.2 truck but I could have sworn I didn't see anything better than the 3.42s when I looked over the options list for the 5.3/6-speed. Are they only available on the regular cab?

What he said lol... I got a 2011 wt with power windows, locks, vinyl flooring with a 4.8 /4l60e ... And I wish I went 5.3.... BUT my 4.8 runs pretty good lol ha .. I'm not sure if the 5.3 rcsb comes with the 6l80e

I stand corrected, with the 5.3/6 speed, the best you can do is 3.42's-no 3.73's in a regular cab.
