definately look for an 09+ 4wd with a 6L80e and make sure it has 3.42 gears. That setup works well with the 5.3. My buddy has a 6 speed with 3.08 gears and its pathetic. Also they are only rated to pull 6k with his configuration. I drive an 07 that still has the 4 speed and I hate it. I will be upgrading to a 6 speed in due time.

Wow guys, I should have asked this question a month ago. I've been looking around town at dealers and craigslist for probably a month and finally feel like I got an idea of price. This information is worth it's weight in gold. I feel like had I not heard all this I would have paid 2-3k too much for a vehicle I settled for.
I always felt like a 6.2 was out or reach. Could I really find a crew 4wd 6.2 for less than $30k used (maybe $28k)? If so, I feel like this is the ticket I need for a satisfied experience. I was hoping to go GMC but if I could get a Silverado like this, then that's fine with me.

buddy of mine on these boards picked up his 08 denali 2wd (3.42s) for under 30k driveout; think it was around 28.5k and as far as mileage it had 35k miles and was in good shape

When I bought mine new there was an 09 ECSB Silverado 6.2 4x4 on the dealer lot with 1200 miles, Certified Pre-Owned and listed for $29k. Beautiful truck. I'm telling you, peel your eyes and put in some effort and you can find whatever you're looking for.

Take it from me. You want a 6-speed. Get something without DOD hardware. It's bullshit.
And no matter which engine you go with, till about 4,500 rpm it's going to feel like a complete dog.
The most beautiful brilliant truck I've ever driven was my buddies 08 NNBS AWD Sierra Denali. Short of being a complete weirdo if you try to use the TUTD feature it felt just amazing. Tight, stable, beautiful interior, and just gorgeous to look at. And yes the trans can and will take the abuse. Screwing around tuning it we had it to where it would break all 4 tires loose on the 1-2 shift and start skating around on the pavement. No problems but of course, that didn't last too long so we went to something more aggressive. That truck has nearly 80k miles too and still hauls ***!
I will have one one of these days, except it'll be turbocharged

What's TUTD? And while we're at it, what's NHT?
Denali's are awesome and I've never even driven one. I wasn't sure about awd, but i also never see myself putting it in 4low and I really enjoy good cornering. I only want 4wd for piece of mind in snow and the like.
I just might have to look for some Denalis, kill all birds w/ one stone...
