I dont really see that many nnbs with 4L80s plus I'd prefer to go with the new six speed trannies unless if I had no other choice. I prefer going with the 6L80/90 because then I could swap the different cluster with the "PRNDM" readout and then swap in the TUTD column shifter.

Btw, thanks for all the replies.

James B is very smart when it comes to transmission but when he made that post 6l80es were only in the newest of C6 vettes. These transmissions have proven to be pretty damn tough. Hell Parish is putting well over 600rwhp and another G8 guy with a TVS2300 doing the same. Those cars are north of 4000#s and are holding up well, Id say thats a pretty good indication of their strength. At the very least they are much better than the 60e if not on par with the 80e.

The reason Im asking is because im planning on swapping in the 6.2 then s/c it soon after into my nnbs rcsb. I did plan on doing it this spring break but the only thing holding me back is the 6L80. Ive been waiting and searching to find a 6L90 but w/o luck.

Its going to be my DD so I want to know it wont suddenly go out on me. Not really looking for the truck to be beast or a 1/4 mile monster, just want the truck to be able to defend itself against a couple of unsuspecting srt8s an lightnings.

80E is strong cause it's 400 based. That dates back many yrs, & is a proven HD trans. Built, it gets even better. But don't discount the 6L80E. It's new, so there's lag time in R&D. Don't be so closed minded.

I'm gonna check out the detailed thread by JamesB from a couple years ago comparing 6L80E to 4L80E where according to him the 6L80E has intrinsic deficiencies in terms of power handling compared to the 4L. If they are probably somewhere betw. 60E & 4L80E in terms of strength, as u said, I hope for most people's sake, it's nearer the 4L80E.

OP, I'd stay w/ your 6L80. You've never heard of any "built" 6L80s cause they're still in their infacy. Products will come, & built ones too. CircleD's doin em, huh?
I'm gonna check out that youtube vid for grins. Hope someone can overcome/ piggy & has a retro 6L80E in the works.

Thanks for the vid....very helpful. I emailed Circle D and hopefully I'll get good news from them.

Btw....how significantly stronger is the 6L90 to the 6L80?
Im thinking that if I dont go with a "built" 6L80 I'll just have to hold out for a 6L90 if its worth it.

258-520ft lbs. in a variety of apps from what I've found.
I try to break it down from what I found.

6L80E: In this order, Max PWR, Max TQ, Gearbox TQ max.

6L90E: Will follow same order, specs below

6L80E: 469/439/664

6L90E: 555/550/885

Both are beasts, but the 90E is a titan in terms of what it can take. How's that grab ya?

Thanks for that info fastnblu.

Wow...I knew the 6L90 was stronger but seeing these number makes me really want to wait and see if I can find one.

I'd done some research on the 6L90s and so far I know that there the "MYD" and that they come in the 2500HD trucks. The 2500HD Silverados and Sierras are the ones I've been asking about since those are the only trucks I know come with those trannies, but I almost never see any HD trucks come through my buddys salvage yard. What I dont get is that I've read that the Yukons also come equipped with the 6L90s but I've looked it up and it says they come with the "MYC" which is the 6L80. Anyone know if any Yukons come equipped with the 6L90s? That would be much easier for me to find since Yukons are more commonly seen.

No, only 6l80e in the half ton apps which include the suvs with the exception of the 2500 suburban.

Since you already have the 6l80e Id rock that for a while and when it blows get it built Circle D. They are great guys.
