Under "normal" use, what usually breaks first on a 4wd.

At what mileage do 4wd parts start breaking?

What extra maintenance does a 4wd require?

Yeah. The way to break things is to take it and play rough. Normal use will usually not see things broken. I guess stranger things have happened. You have a warranty right?

I guess I am comparing all 4wds to my father's 1999 4wd Blazer. I think his Blazer is the biggest piece of junk GM ever produced. There was always something going wrong with the 4wd.

I know it isn't GM, but I beat the hell out of my 96 Cherokee Sport 4x4; the front frame broke before any four-wheel-drive component.

Id say 2wd based off of what you said in your first post. Lighter and less expensive sticker price but if you got the dough then 4wd is nice to have.

if you don't need it now or never needed it, why purchase it. Yes, it is a nice to have when the time comes, how often will this be? if you are worried about not having it, don't put yourself in a situation where you may need it.

I changed from 4wd to 2wd. do I miss it, yes but for the 5 times I may use it during the year, i have learned to live without it.

and if you ever want to regear, half the cost if you have a 2wd!!!

I live in AZ and bought a 4x4; it never snows here, and very very rarely rains, so I don't need it, but I sure enjoy having it
