^ Haha just threw a stick into the gears.
I was always under the impression it came with the max towing option in the pickups, and most are built this way with the 6.2, but as with anything it's just an option.

His original question was do all 4X4 6.2 trucks from 09-13 have 14 bolts. They all do. AWD trucks and SUVs do not. I am not certain when you look at GMT800 SS trucks and VHO trucks, but I believe they had a similar situation.

Its a mind **** to me to hear that the AWD vehicles have a 10b still.

I am curious to know how GM came to the conclusion that the 10b would be fine with 411hp, assuming the AWD t case can vector torque like I believe it can.

Tbss has a 14 bolt.

Can you elaborate on what makes the corporate 14bolt(not a true dana60) a semi-float rear axles? Im curious.

The new trucks have a 9.5 ring gear which is basically the same as 14 bolt, but comes in 12 bolt housing 5.3 getting 9.5 housing and 6.2 getting 9.75 housing. Some parts are interchangable, and you can use older style 9.5 for a gear swap on new truck but requires carrier adapter and yoke i believe. Us nnnnnnnnbs guys are stuck without much aftermarket parts for now even those fancy diff covers, ask me how i know lol.

Someone correct me if misspoke on something here, long day.

I dont think anyone called any of the 14b's a Dana 60. They clearly arent.

GM Corporate produced the 14 bolt in full and semi floating designs, with 8 and 6 lug variants.

AAM produces the 9.5 14 bolt that this thread is mainly referring to. They also produce the 10.5, but I dont know the cover or ring gear bolt count.

The difference between all semi floating and full floating axles (regardless of who made them, and who designed them) is whether the axle shaft (not housing) supports vehicle weight. If it does: semi. If it doesn't: full.

Yes and if you go through all the trouble of a swap, convert to a full float, so you keep your wheels attached and limp home if you snap and axle, weld axle tubes, shave the bottom of the housing so you dont give up ground clearance, put a good manual or air locker, upgrade studs, upgrade axles which you will have to do anyway to conver to full float, and obviously cut off dinky brackets and build some beefy ones and/or convert to multilink. That is all shouldn't cost you much lol.

The problem with the full float is that it weighs a metric ton.

Have we had anyone on this forum that broke a properly prepped semi-float 9.5 14 bolt?

Hell, even the 10 bolt is mighty strong when well prepped.

After being completely disgusted with the used prices of the few used 6.2's I was able to find, I just ended up paying cash for another 2004 Overland Grand Cherokee. FWIW the one 2011 Sierra Denali I test drove had a 10 bolt, the guy at the dealer ship said it was 2wd but the truck didn't have I sticker showing the options so I'm not sure if he knew what he was talking about.

Also the 14 bolt in my other turbo truck seems to be holding up pretty well, other than the Gov Lock. I got several of those little teeth inside it busted off. It's getting the 1320 disc brake conversion as we speak. Once those little teeth start break, do they take a shortly after. It still worked the last time I did a burnout but I'm currently at a little over 800rwhp and wondering if I should change to a rebuildable Eaton LSD while it is already half taken apart.

I should also add these are going on it when the conversion is done. Will my G80 be a ticking time bomb?

G80's tend to have the reputation that they were a ticking time bomb when brand new.

I agree.
