I would leave them on. The GMT900s actually have them on the outer-most location on the door panels. They actually protect against most dings.
GMT800 had them on just about the worst position possible and do nothing.

If my wife didn't occasionally drive the truck with my son I'd take them off but I'm not going to make her park in the back forty and lug all the kid crap. Plus the sheetmetal on these new trucks is even thinner than the 800s. The totally color matched moldings don't really stand out any way.

Do you have a young kid? When we were dating she would park my Dmax way in the back and walk. Now that we've got a small kid its a buy different now. With that said, she doesn't drive my truck very much at all. She's loves her civic si much better and I'm perfectly fine with that, don't have to adjust my mirrors/seat

I trust her with it I just don't want to have to deal with that phone call when I am at work that "your truck is acting funny"....

Carport! Oh yea man! You, FTW... lol
That has nothing to do why they turn yellow... I assume you drive without your fancy "carport', and I assume your truck get dirty too...
Those facts, over time, will lead to yellowing. No way around it (especially silver and white)
