why do you have to replace the valley cover with this swap, I don't understand that part of it.

Because for some reason u get low oil pressure readings with the DOD valley cover after you swap lifters. im sure the oil pressure is good but it just causes it to read low if you don't change it. Maybe there is a way to just plug the passages on the DOD valley cover. I wish i could give you a better answer but i never bothered to find out why this happens.

the passages are still there with the LS2 cover aren't they? why not just remove the solenoids from the stock cover and go like that? I'll have to find a AFM cover and see whatit looks like... maybe I can rig something up... always wanted to build a "custom" valley cover anyways at the shop...

The oil from the lifter galley races backwards into the DOD actuators when the LS7 lifters are installed, as they have no flow-though any longer.

Been there, done that, and you get low oil pressure on the top end.

Believe me, I ran every combo of this deal. Do you want tapping, misfire, etc? Do you want massive intake backfires when you try half-*** plugging the DOD soleniods? I did.

Sure you could tap and plug the engine block with AN aluminum or Brass pipe plugs, but do you want metal shavings in your oil galley???

Buy the correct $90 valley cover to block off the ports, put in LS7 lifters, and disable AFM/DOD and call it a day, or just leave it stock.

To me, it was hella expensive, but now with a 212/218 cam, the truck pulls hard and climbs grades like no tomorrow.

No, they are blocked off, thus the reason for this cover.

Did you notice a really nice increase in highway cruising power with the 212/218 cam?
