So far it's OK, might be a tad lean or need a bit more spark advance at low RPMs. I DO need to get some more 1/4 mile laps on my truck to REALLY get a feel on how it performs, LOL!

Thumbs down

Thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead and add three pics of the #1 header tube interference with the steering intermediate shaft.

Enjoy!

What's the primary tubing size on your headers? Mine are 1 7/8" . . .

That might make a difference, but 1 3/4, my little 5.3 didn't need any more than that.

Doesn't look that bad. If I encounter the same two clearance issues I'll find a lower profile bolt/nut and grind a couple of those ribs down. Shouldn't take much to get enough clearance.

Unfortunately I'm not too keen on grinding on steering components. Not very thick material there to begin with, sure would be a b!tch if that collapsible shaft suddenly failed, LOL!

I was going to loosen my motor mounts and see if I could persuade the engine over towards the passenger side a RCH, but the way the mounts are designed it doesn't appear that's possible.

So - gonna need to remove the lower steering intermediate shaft and dent the #1 tube just a bit.

Ya I hear what you're saying. I'm guessing that black ribbed piece is hollow between the two shafts? And I wonder why there needs to be ribbing inbetween there anyways...maybe I could fab a piece of sqare tubing

Preston - I'm guessing that it's part of the collapsible steering column that limits steering column intrusion and chest injuries in a frontal collision.
