Driver of the truck is on holidays until next week so I will find out more after christmas as to what is going on.

Well the end result is in but the verdict is still foggy. The dealership determined the engine is "irrepairable" so in other words it needs a full overhaul. A replacement was ordered on the 23rd of December. It was lifter failure that killed it, and I am pretty sure that the lifter probably took the lobe off the cam while it was at it. The bearings are most likely wasted if they are unwilling to fix the engine. It's not a simple swap in new lifters and kick it out the door affair.

The 5 year 100000 mile warranty is covering it.
