6.2L swap help

very interesting and thanks for the info. ive got an 08 4.8 so i guess id be clear from that. as far as daryn, i believe hes got a 4l60 in his truck not the 6l80. whats the word on these 6 spds now? are they strong like the 4l80? how about converting to 2wd since most i see are from 4x4
That is about all I know, I was looking hard at swapping 6.2L/6L80 over until I ran into the fuel module issue because you are looking at rewiring a bunch of stuff, plus extra sensor in the lines, the module, different lines, etc...gets kinda complicated...by the time you do that plus the dash readout plus the shift lever, tranny crossmember, driveshaft, programming etc probably not worth it vs modding 5.3 (or putting in a 6.2) and leaving the tranny in place. I have the LMG/flexfuel 5.3.
Never got around to doing anything in the end, too many other projects..
Also not saying you couldn't make it work without that module, just that its a lot easier to plug things in and have them work. Hot rodders always find a way to make anything work. I wanted mine to look stock so could still go to dealer and have warranty intact...they find out you are swapping engines/trannies they just throw their hands up, freak out and deny everything!!
But now the 2010 trucks all get the 6 speed so might go that way, trade in, swap out the 6.2, it would look stock and haul some butt.GM even has 480hp 6.2 crate engine.
The 6 speeds seem to be holding up from what I hear, not sure which ones will end up in the 10 reg cabs. They are modular so to swap from 4x4 to 2wd you remove the transfer case on the back and put on the 2wd tailshaft (plus programming too of course) and good to go. This thing could have a real future for hot rodders too, bellhousing is removable so if somebody were to make a bellhousing for buick/olds/pontiac and/or anything else be a wicked swap for old cars assuming the electronics get sorted out too.
I would think the 6 speed would make a real difference in any combo just due to its lower 1st and 2nd gears and mileage on highway would be about the same as top gear is almost identical to the 4 speed.
Two pics attached of 08 fuel system wiring, first one is LMG/LY6/LC9 engines (no module) and second shows everything else (in case anyone else might be interested this also applies to 07's)
Hope that helps a bit.

So it sounds like just the intake and fuel rails are the only things needed to do the swap. I would plan on staying as close to a direct engine swap as possible, of course retuning the ecm. Dont these engines have VVT? Not sure what would have to be done to eliminate that.

i see this an old post, wonder if its dead. well time to find out lol, been thinking of doing this with my 2012 GMC Sierra RCSW Z/71 4x4 5.3l flex fuel with 6 speed. anyone done this with 2011 and new?

I will be. But will be doing it the easy way (IMO) I have a 09' RCSB 4x4 5.3 AFM, DOD and am swapping from a 12 CCSWB 6.2 6L80E 4X4. Using Complete drivetrain (engine, trans, transfercase, rearend), Fuel system, Brake lines (my 08'only had a single line to the rear and the lines off the master cylinder to the ABS system are larger). Also taking the dash, door pannels, seats, and console so it will be a SLT interior. The 12' was a runner before so no reason why it shouldn't fire right up.
On a side note, it looks like the LCA's on 6.2's are out of aluminum...

Im also going this route. I hope. I have an 08 rcsb 4.8 4l60e 2wd. I also have a complete 6.2 6l80e out of a 2012 camaro. I will be doing the tail swap on the trans. Id like to keep the car accessories if possible.
I am planning for a cam swap that retains the vvt. I have the harness, ecm, maf, gas pedal, and exhaust.
Still researching everything I need to do so when I pull the trigger its just a matter of doing the work.
