Man, should have waited to get my regular cab with the 6 speed. Exactly how big of an advantage does the 6l80e have over the old 4l60e performance wise? I know a majority of the trucks will have the 3.08 or 3.42 rearend so how would that stack up to my 4 speed and a 3.73. It would suck to have stock regular cab walking all over my butt. Heaven forbid x-cabs too.

I'm gonna test one as soon as I can and see for myself. Almost time to trade up anyway....

From the ordering guide it looks like the steepest gear you can order on a 2010 reg cab is the 3.42. The first gear of the 6 speed is a stump puller (4.03, 2.36, 1.53 1.15, 0.85 and finally 0.67) vs the 4speed (3.06, 1.63, 1.0, and 0.7) so I think its gonna be pretty quick with a tune for the electronic throttle etc (I'm sure stock gm will make it sluggish via software for the warranty)...it also gets rid of that extreme drop from 1 to 2nd on the 4 speed so the engine is in the powerband more...
don't get me wrong, 4.03 is perfectly capable of some work. i used my v6/5 spd (4.02 - 2.32 - 1.40 - 1.00 - .73) with 3.73 diff's to move a small cabin. it's sad you can't get some racing... um... i mean pulling gears, though

I say you're probably right. I live around Dayton(Moraine) were they make the current Duramax. I know for a fact that they will be closed from mid-December 2009 until April 2010 for retooling (all 540 employees). The retooling is part of General Motors Corp.’s $70 million investment in the plant, to ready it to produce a “clean disel” engine that meets federal emission requirements. They currently make the 6.6 but it would be nice if they make the new 4.5, since one would assume they could sell more.
