Default 1 bolt vs 3 bolt cam

hi, Im new to site so excuse me if this horse has already been beaten to death, Im looking to cam my 08 cc and will be adding LTs, ORY, Circle D 3200 and DOD delete to compliment followed by a local dyno tune. My question is regarding cam selection. Ive decided on the TR220 - 112 but not sure whether to get the 1 bolt or 3 bolt (most of Thunder Racings cams are offered either way) I know my stock is a single and if I go with the 3 bolt, Ill need a new sprocket. It appears alot of members run the 3 bolt, but is there any advantage other than the ability to run a double roller timing set? Thanks for the advice

nope, although it gives you a vhance to buy more cams thats been used...but id rather a very low mileage cam/new
if your buying a brand new cam why not have a cam spec'd for your truck an your future mods? its the same price...just my opinion

this will probably be the extent of my mods as it will be just enough to hold me over until the chevelle hits the streets($25k later) Im just looking for a little noise and this heavy @$$ truck to get out of its own way. Will the wedge tensioner work with the single bolt sprocket?

I don't think TR does this, but i'm sure there are some places that will charge extra to grind a cam with a single bolt, especially if they have a lot of 3-bolt ones in their shop, so I think that's where all the 3 bolt conversion talk came from (If some place wants 30+ dollars extra to grind a single bolt cam, then why not just order the 7 dollar 3 bolt sprocket).

But structurally there's not gonna be a difference. Like iamkeniff mentioned, you'll be able to run a lot of off the shelf cams that are already out there.

yep but if your spec'ing a cam anyways whats the point to go 3 bolt. theyre use to be no single bolt cams now theres plenty if choices. its all in what you decide imo.
i personally ran single bolt cams bc i spec'd my cam an bought a very low mileage cam
for my build
