yep i can actually see that..... lol .... i guess i did it because i was under the impression i could just swap the extension housing from one trans to the other.. lol .. guess not.. lol well i guess ill just finish up with the engine swap only...

 

mine use to be a 4spd....it was a beast with the 6.2

 

So what about swapping the 6L80E behind a 5.3 in my 05 RCSB 2wd? I don't want to swap the entire engine trans. Just curious what would be needed to just swap the tranny? Thanks,

I am interested in this swap. I have an 08 rcsb. I also happen to have a complete l99 6.2 6l80 drop out from a 2012 Camaro. Harness, ecm, pedal, exhaust. I got it for another project but would rather use it in my 08.
I want to keep the VVT in 6.2 but with a cam upgrade.
I know my 4.8 had DOD and am happy to dump it.

I can handle the installation and any fabrication needed for the swap, its the computer/programming part that im concerned with.
Will I be able to use the ecm from the Camaro?
What other concerns should I have?

 

To my knowledge you can not run a 58x tcm stand alone and still connect with the gen 3 (24x) ecm. I am unsure though considering no one has ever mentioned it. As far as i know you have to run a 58x reluctor wheel/ecm/tcm/stand alone harness to run it in an older truck.

Imho hp and a 6L80e swap is crap. Yeah i enjoy 6 gears but i spin 2k rpm with 4:10s, 32" tire still. My 4L60e i spun the same rpms maybe a little higher.

 

Okay guys I'm new also and I need help. I just recently bought the 6l80e for my 08 Chevy Silverado 5.3 it has the 4l60e and I need to know what parts are needed for the swap

 

Transmission
Converter
Oil cooler lines
Dip stick and tube
Shifter linkage bracket or modify your 60e one (i did)
Slip yoke
Transmission mount or make one
6.0 or 6.2/6L80e wiring harness
Reflash your ecm with the OS for the 2500hd or denali
Reprogram the ecm for your mods

As for cluster i do not know if just "swapping" them out will work or not. So maybe a bcm change or a reflash, with possible gauge swap. Tow/haul and manual shifter is an easy swap as most trucks have the tu/td wiring already

 

The 6.0/6.2 wiring harness is that the engine harness? Will it interfere with me having a 5.3?

 

The only thing that will be different is the VVT, which you don't use anyways, and the trans pigtail will be for a 6spd

 

I found the wiring harness. It says it's for 5.3, 6.2 and the 6l80e 4x4
But I have a 2wd. Does it matter?
