But, I really like the idea of 6 gears for gas mileage & ratio between gears. That leaves a T56 conversion or this, the 6spd. auto. I like to plan in advance. As it sits now, my 04 5.3 truck would be easiest to stay w/ a Level 5 4L6xE. The 80e is slightly more involved but strong like bull. The t56 gets more complex yet fun to drive. I read a post saying u can't keep a clutch in t56 - equipped trucks( weight & pwr don't mix). It sounds like for 6 spd. auto, I'd be swappin motors to make it happen. That drives up cost big time. Manual would be most fun, but not @ expense of durability. Hopefully, others will do a 6 spd. auto retrofit ( GMPP, Nelson,etc.).

If I were in your shoes i'd probably do a 4L80, while a T56 would be sweet the clutch would worry me + i'm lazy and hate shifting. My buddy has a 6.0 4L80E in his 06 2500 sierra, it's a heavy pig CCLB 4x4. He has towed 20K lbs+ with it. with 60K on the clock the thing doesn't miss a beat, it's a stout trans for sure.

Anybody know about the durability of the 6 speeds? If it were like the 80e it would be awesome. My work truck is an 02 2500hd that has almost 300k on it with the original drivetrain, and **** poor maintainance, but runs like new and pulls a 28' trailor almost every day of its life.
