Why do you try to make your truck perform better?

the coments of buying an f body or vette are just that--they are "pre" built to be fast.
the nice thing about trucks is like it has been said, is very unsupecting. how many people do you think pull up on parish and go "bet it's slow, its a truck." little do they know it runs 10's. in my opinion i build a truck b/c i like trucks better, more comfort and like todd said, b/c i can! buying a vette is just to easy, i like challanges and like to be different from everyone else.

I bought my truck after seeing you guys on here smoking Camaro's and such.. plus i had a tahoe and its just something about a truck that i cant get away from.. I basically look at it as instead of spending money on Illegal things might as well spend it on something i can enjoy..

Mainly I bought a truck because it was a necessity, I always had a fast bike so it did not really matter how fast my truck was. I have had many different year models and until I sold my last crotch rocket I was just mildly annoyed at douchebags who messed with me in my truck because they knew it was slow. After blowing away a few of those goofs in totally stock trucks it became fun to embarrass some of em who were a little too cocky lookin at my truck. Now its a quest to find people who will actually race you when you give em a rev or two. I would say to sum it up its allot more fun to smoke anyone in a "TRUCK" than it was on a crotch rocket!!!

I ordered my truck with the entent of having the cheapest daily driver that I could find that would still tow my Jeep to and from the trail. It did a great job of that. Then I went to Gainesville drag strip and met some fast LS1 folks like Scream...
Now I spend more time thinking about how to mod my tow rig than my Jeep!

Every girl I have asked has said that trucks are hotter than corvettes. Plus you get more respect if you drive a truck rather than an f-body. Although I'm still trying to persuade my dad into buying a c6, hes about old man corvette age.

Did anyone buy their truck with the specific intent to make it perform better? Or, was it more like my situation? Sometimes I wonder why I'm trying to make 2 tons of truck perform like a Z/28.

This is the timeline of my "bug".
8 years ago, as my first car, I had a '70 Olds. Headers, cam, intake, carb, ignition - all that fun stuff. It was a dog - I didn't know what I was doing, went about it all wrong. Got discouraged at the costs to make it 'go', and the costs of Olds parts over Chevy stuff. Decided it wasn't the car I wanted to put money into. Sold it.
Bought a '96 S10 truck as a daily driver. No mods.
Bought a '00 ZR2 Blazer. Lifted it, got it all off-road worthy. Motor and tranny both started to crap out. At the time I hated all computer controlled vehicles... thinking they were "unmodable". Traded it for:
'02 Avalanche. 5.3, 1500. The V8 bug bit again HARD. I started to look into stuff for it, but realized that wasn't what I wanted to mod. Thought about getting another muscle car. Can't do two vehicles right now... Can't do a muscle car because of the snow we get here, and I need a truck for my hobbies.
So that leads me to this truck.
Right now I'm thinking about all the money I already put into the truck... when If I had a F-body here, I'd already be very quick and running respectable numbers.
In the trucks defence, I'm just not really a car person. I'm a truck or muscle-car person. F-bodys are a little too close to 'regular cars' to me a lot of the time.
If there wasn't the other friendly competition of other people trying to make their trucks go fast, this would get old rather quick.
I'm shooting for a goal of 12's N/A, while retaining full towing and hauling ability. How many vehicles on the road could run in the 12's... then hook up to a trailer... and tow 6,000lbs through a snow-storm?
That's cool to me.

I initially purchased mine because we had a new 20' Trophy that our Jeep Cherokee would pull just fine, but it damn sure wouldn't stop very well. Wife and I looked around and decide a RCSB would work since we didn't have any kids (at least then). Then I started reading about Lightnings. Took the wife for a test drive in a used L. Her question was "What would it take for you to keep the Chevy?" She always has been a Bowtie gal. I said "Whipple". She said "OK". I picked myself up off the floor and went shopping!
All the extra stuff has been just an extension of my dementia...
