Default When do airbags go off?

What speed should the airbags go off in my 2003 Sierra ECSB? Also where are the sensors located?

Head on or offset collision, takes a pretty serious impact to fire them from my experience. I hit guardrails at 50mph and it didn't blow....well it sucked but the airbags did not fire.

Haha, GM airbags suck. You'll be lucky if they deploy when you need them. My sister and brother in law were in a accident and went head first into a ditch and flipped it in a 2001 tahoe . No air bags went off. The front end was folded in like a pancake. So if you do need them don't count on them workin.

So if I hit a telephone pole at 15 mph, should they have gone off?

There are a few parameters that must be met....certain speed, rate of decel, as well as where the impact is (side airbags = side impact, etc.) A lady hit me in a Chrysler about 12 years ago...she pulled out of a gas station and t-boned the passenger side of the car I was driving...I watched her airbag deploy and knock her *** out like Mike Tyson.

women drivers...
but I crashed my 95 Bonneville 50mph.. T-boned a girl 2 months older than me..(what a coincidence!) and she was at fault. Mine went off. But roll overs they arent supposed to due to they could contribute to a decapitation.

Had an offset r/f impact in my girls Toyota Matrix(same as a Vibe) No airbag Deployment and I was in the pass. seat, hit my head on the r/f window and a-pillar with a seatbelt on. 9k in damage also the colarado that hit us no airbag, we were going about 35 and he pulled out of a parking lot and my girl swerved but couldn't miss him. Not just a GM thing as the Vibe/Matrix are made by Toyota.

In order for the airbag to go off 2 of the 3 sensors (most systems) must be triggered. Just because your hit in the front doesnt always mean they are going to go off.
