whats with the coating GM uses on there frames?

I think they forgot to dry my frame before they waxed it. I can peel the sh*t off in big sheets. Rusty surface beneath. One quarter the cost, one quarter the quality of protection.

but i have to ask! where are youguys buying the 3M stuff....none of the local places around here sell it! at least i cant find one!

Man, I live in upstate NY with all teh snow and salt and that coating has been a life save so far! No rust whatsoever on it. Only place it's come off so far is on the front crossmember where I stepped into my engine bay during my engine swap. I thought I saw some of that 3M stuff at Advance the other day.

I don't know about Albany but the rest of NY state uses a lot of salt in the winter and that frame coating does not hold up even if you don't drive your truck in the winter.I removed mine with lacquer thinner and sandblasted the rear half when I did the 4bar and coated with POR15. the only problem now is the POR15 is flaking off where the metal was like new and not rusted or sandblasted. It needs a good "tooth" to stick.
