I started using Royal Purple in my truck with 68k on the clock. Can't say anything bad about them. I changed the oil every 10-12k with a filter and top off at every 3-4k. I have since changed everything over to Amsoil (at around 140k) and really like it.

I currently run the Amsoil Signature 0-w30 and the Ea0 oil filter. (230k miles on the clock now) Even though Amsoil says you can change it once a year during NORMAL useage every 25k miles I choose the Severe 17.5k mile changes due to the hot Florida weather and for the fact that im pretty rough on the ol 5.3. I normally have to add about a half quart every 5k. I have had once service for my trans which had regular fluid in it from my local rebuild (junk rebuild) and I changed the filter and added Amsoil trans fluid. Im comming up on another trans service and will put more of the Amsoil in it. Also running Amsoil in the rear. So far im impressed with their products.

The reason Amsoil changed their tune on Toyota (mainly 4cly applications) was due to Toyotas having horrible sludge problems no matter what kind of oil was used. My neighbor is on her 3rd toyota because of this. (Her current one doesn't have the sludge issue) The others had documented oil changes and services done by Toyota and had major bering failures or knocks. She still bought Toyota because the cut her a great deal. My dad actually saved my moms 4cly camary before it was too late. He went to drain the oil one day and none came out but the dipstick said it was perfect. A piece of sludge was blocking the drain plug. A few motor flushes later and its still up a running.

Wal-Mart brand SuperTech synthetic oil. Change around 5-6000 miles
Wix filter.
Harvest King Dextron
Probably should but have never changed the diff fluid.

Truck now has 140,000 miles on it and I still haven't been able to kill the engine.
Most all of that high dollar oil is just propaganda to me.

That's weird because I've been with Toyota/Lexus since 92 and the majority of our sludge (or "gel" as Lexus calls it ) has been with the V6's I've been with Lexus for the past 6+ years though, so if the Toyota 4 cyls have been affected in that time I may not be aware of it. Lexus has never had a 4 cyl in it's lineup until the new 2010 HS250H Hybrid. Whatever the case, we've figured out that the PCV system is at fault, and our gel SPA (Special Policy Adjustment) includes installing new valve covers with redesigned PCV passages, as well as replacing valve seals, cleaning the oil pump pickup, etc. It makes perfect sense though...either way, my family's Toyotas get a new filter every 5k now. FWIW, both my mom's 99 4cyl Solara and ex-wife's 03 Matrix looked perfect underneath the valve covers at 65k and 92k respectively...of course they've both had perfect maintenance records, first with conventional Havoline, and later with Mobil1, before switching to Amsoil

I'd find it hard to run any filter a year. The way I am, in my mind its just cheap insurance to drain her a few more times.

Penny pinching on motor oil changes isnt exactly smart. As for wanting to buy amsoil in the store, its all about convenience. Sure you could order it online and pay shipping, and wait, or I could take the 1-3 minute drive to the 4 auto parts stores in town and get it there and have it right then. Of course you cant do that, so I buy Mobil 1.

I dont care what any bottle/manufacturer says about their product that ***** gettin drained in 5 to 10
