GM has a thing for naming their trucks after western places, attractions, etc. Such as; Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, GMC Sierra, Chevy Trailblazer, Chevy Silverado.
There's the Silverado winery trail out in Napa valley.

Heh...damn...almost got a lock "hat trick"
Colorado means "red" in spanish, Sierra can mean "mountain range" or "saw"(the tool)
Silverado I've never heard used in Spanish language...I don't know.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
The Silverado name has graced Chevy Pickups since 1975 . . . typically on the top-of-the-line models. So when Chevrolet set out to name its brand new 1999 full-size pickup, the choice was easy.
"This new truck has a high level of standard equipments," said Chevy General Manager John Middlebrook. "It deserved the Silverado name . . . a name that means 'top-of-the-line'."
According to Middlebrook, the new Silverado Pickup will feature base, LS and LT trim levels like the rest of Chevy's truck brands.
