Default Waterpump leaking badly now

well since last year it had a slow leak, I would top off with coolant every couple thousand miles, now today I can see it stead dripping fast, coming from the block front somewhere to middle. Dealer said 303.25 or something just for the pump. Can the pump still be good and needs a gasket? Im using this opportunity to pull the engine regardless.

If its the gasket, then Ill like to reuse this engine and pump into something else.

You're going to pull the motor to fix a water pump? It's not a hard fix...

I too don't understand why you are pulling the engine? It doesn't take long to pull the water pump off. People change cams with the engine still in the truck and that involves pulling the pump off.

Just take the pump off and fix it. Likely just the gasket but either way there's no reason to pull the engine.

Mine is leaking pretty bad too, fixing it tonight, just went to Oreilly's and for pump/both belts/t-stat/coolant was $170. Figured I'd just replace it all since it's gotta come off anyway.

All you need are some $10 gaskets..no need for a $300 pump

Ive seen more gaskets leak than pumps. Usually on the passanger side is the leak.

Yeah really I just replaced my water pump gaskets last weekend, I think it was 6 bucks for each gasket, took probably about a hour and half to do, just taking my steady time

I agree on not needing to pull engine. $12 for the pr. of gaskets is prolly all it needs. Even if it's the pump ($300+), I rather gamble on just gaskets if I have the chance to save ~$280 even if I had to do removal a 2nd time. And I hate doin things twice!
But I prolly dislike spendin $ I don't have (or have to) even more.

They could be reused (the new gaskets) just to check for leaks. They're not paper like old ones.

Gaskets were all that mine needed, but my leak wasn't as severe.
Here's 3 pics of when I did mine. Notice the deformation of the gaskets (those lil orange O-ring lookin things are them.) There's little there so u can see why so many people have these leak. Follow bolt head & screwdriver tip to point where they intersect, that's all it takes to leak.
