My water pump has been leaking for more than a year. It is a very slow leak, but it is slowly getting worse.

2005 GMC Yukon 4.8

I am thinking about doing this myself and hoping it is not too difficult. The dealer wants about $600 to do it.

Which water pump would you purchase and why? Are there bad ones and good ones?

 

On my Suburban I bought the pump from the dealer, came with a new t-stat,and reusable gaskets $200

Avalanche has a Oreilly water pump...Came without the t-stat, and paper gaskets. 1st water pump did not fit the t-stat on my factory pump and had to exchange and wait a day for the other pump. $110

Both have been good with no leaks.

 

water pump is silly easy on these trucks..
15mm for the belt
10mm for the Tstat housing, and 6 bolts holding the Pump on
3 15mm holding the Tensioner on.

should be able to finish it under an hour easy

 

Really? Wow, that is good news indeed. Thank you! I was afraid I was going to have to remove a lot more stuff.

 

Yea, super easy, especially since you have efans. I always put rtv around the thermostat housing since it tends to leak there.

 

Its very easy.


Yea a small dab never hurts.. i always use the Felpro gaskets like the original GMs.. not the stupid paper style.
