The 6.0 lq9 I purchased from a member has arrived at the loading doc. They said it would be another 60 dollars to have the engine delivered to my home address, but it would be on a tractor trailer so I dont think that is an option in my neighborhood. They will load it on my truck with a fork lift but I dont have any one I know around here to help me unload it. I thought about buying an engine hoist since I will use one some time in the near future and using that to unload it but dont know what all I need to make it hook to my engine to take it out of the back of the truck. Any one else have any idea of some kind of contraption or method that I could use or rent to unload this. I will be picking it up Thursday. Here is a picture of how it looks on the pallette before it was shipped.

Go ahead and get an engine hoist, since you will need one for the swap. Get a 3 ft piece of chain from the hardware store and bolt it to the engine. I bolt the chain to the heads using accessory bolts.

 

yup what quicksilverado said, or you can just rent a engine hoist from a rental shop

 

Also get a load leveler it will make removal and installation of the motor 10x easier and also comes iwth chains already to attach at four points on the motor.

Yes, you can rent, but they aren't that expensive to buy. After a few trips to rent (due to fitment issues) @ $35 a pop, it's worth it to buy if you have a store like Harbor Freight nearby. A 1 ton lift may be a good bet for ~ $150 - $200. Wish I had bought one. Comes in handy here in Louisiana. Lots of folk around. GOIR members (and honorary members) borrow tools all the time. Good to be by cool peeps.

[Rant] When you bolt into it, use the block. The heads are aluminum and hanging 400 pounds from bolts sticking out of the heads is a bad idea. I know "Everybody" does it, still doesn't make it a good idea. I think this is a left over habit from the iron head days. Talked to a guy at WCCH just the other day about this and he said many heads get damaged and can crack from this practice. Damage you will not see but will cost you performance. [/Rant]

never used an engine hoist before though...what size bolts can I use to attach the chain and if not the heads, are there holes in the block?
