LT, 4x4, xtra cab, 5.3. Looks like with GM Employee prices its still at $28k with options.
I think the GM Emp Discount is a bit of hype. My bro bought an Avalanche, new, and got about $10,000 off sticker. This was last year on an '04. We priced out his truck new........same price. Maybe he just got a "good deal" at the time, but I think they can be bought at that price year 'round.?.?

I probably could have gotten it for $1K under (I think the holdback was about $1200 on my truck) but I didn't want to be greedy and ungrateful. So, combined with a $5000 rebate, I got a $39K truck for about $29K ($32 after TT&L).
Could I have gotten the same price walking in off the street, cold, not knowing anybody? Sure, but it likely would have been more painful, and taken a lot more time. The whole deal took me about an hour and a half from when I walked in to when I drove off.
The key is to have invoice numbers, and when you talk to them, be patient and kind, but firm. Go to Edmunds.com to get invoice prices for your desired configuration, and GM Buy Power to find dealers with those vehicles in your area. It really is that simple.
Talk to the decision maker. Many times you have to get to the Finance guy. Tell him (firmly but softly) that you're not paying a penny above (whatever your price is - invoice, or a couple hundred under is attainable if you play your cards right), and tell him that you're willing to go to whoever will give you that price.
This kind of deal can be had any time of year. I usually go when the rebates are highest, in August or September, when the new models are out and the old ones are sitting on the lot. That makes it much easier. Good luck.

the reason i ask is that there is a pretty good price jump to go to a 4x4. if you're trying to save money i'd look into a 2wd.

Even in Prescott this year we had a decent amount of snow.
Or Maybe he was hooked from the AWD Denali.
