Default truck stranded me today

after running several errands today my truck decides it wasnt going to start anymore in the home depot parking lot.the truck showed no signs of anything being wrong at any time during the day, several starts and stops with no event.... the starter wasnt grinding whirring making any abnormal sounds at all. then i come out of home depot and get in the truck.. the first thing i notice when i go to start it is that the dinger that goes off when you engage the key to the on position was sounding really obnoxious ,i engage the key fully and the truck barely cranks over maybe half a revolution before going dead. then nothing..... all i get is guages when i turn the truck on.. i dont even think the pump is priming. the starter doesnt engage at all
nothing happened whatsoever when i tried to start the truck. having really no other option i had it towed to a local shop, straight away the guy opens the door of my truck and bumps it into a sharp corner on one of the uprights of the lift. i thought i was going to puke. anyway... has anyone had any similar problems or know of what the problem might be. preferrably i would have liked to fix it myself, but i had no clue as to what the problem was.i cant wait to see the bill, and possible dents.

thanks

Might be your battery. Mine went bad while my truck was parked in the garage. Everything seemed fine but when I cranked the truck, it wouldn't start. Got a new battery and everything worked fine again. A guy from the shop where I bought it from told me it wasn't holding charge so after a while that the truck had not been running, it would die. So if its not that, it might be your alternator. If something happened to the truck while it was towed, make sure you get a your payback, if not economicaly, physicaly. Hope its not something major. Check the battery for any corrosion on the terminals, if there is clean it off good. My truck didn't start one morning and I had no idea why. My battery was relatively new and there was no warning signs of it losing power.

I bought a Optima red-top battery for my 99, then put it in my 02 and have had it for 5 years and no problems at all. I used to let my 99 sit for 2 weeks and when I turned the key it fired right up!! Optimas are well worth the price. Just my opinion.
